Stocks drop as investors prepare for quarter end (AP)

LONDON ? Stocks fell on Friday as optimism over Germany's approval for a beefed-up European rescue fund faded and investors closed trades ahead of the end of the fiscal quarter, which has seen the biggest losses since 2008, when the world was heading into its deepest recession since World War II.

Though the German Parliament's support of an expanded bailout facility on Thursday has helped soothe some concerns over Europe's debt crisis, investors are aware that there are many hurdles ahead, not least the possibility of a Greek debt default.

However, much of Friday's trading activity is being influenced by the confluence of the month and quarter-end. Many fund managers try to get their portfolios to look as healthy as possible at such junctures and that prompts some volatility.

"Today will mostly be about wrapping up the third quarter," said Kit Juckes, an analyst at Societe Generale. "Random-seeming month-end moves are guaranteed."

In Europe, the FTSE 100 index of leading British shares was down 1.3 percent to 5,131 while Germany's DAX fell 2.5 percent to 5,500. The CAC-40 in France was 1.8 percent lower at 2,972.

Wall Street is also poised to open lower ? Dow futures were down 1.1 percent at 10,983 while the broader Standard & Poor's 500 futures fell 1.2 percent at 1,144.

The focus later will be on a raft of U.S. economic figures to see if the recent improvement in the dataflow continues. Top of the list will be a survey of manufacturing conditions in and around the Chicago area and the University of Michigan's latest assessment of consumer confidence.

"There is enough to keep traders busy, but this market still feels like one that is in a holding pattern waiting for the next stage of the European drama to unfold," said Ben Critchley, market strategist at IG Index.

On Thursday, investors were cheered by some upbeat U.S. figures as well as the German 'yes' vote.

The Commerce Department said the U.S. economy grew at an annual rate of 1.3 percent in the April-June quarter, up from an estimate of 1 percent made a month ago. The improvement reflected more consumer spending and a bigger boost from trade.

Further good news emerged from the Labor Department, which found that jobless claims last week dropped 37,000 to a seasonally adjusted 391,000, the lowest level since April 2. It's the first time applications have fallen below 400,000 since Aug. 6.

In the currency markets, the euro failed to react to a surprisingly big increase in inflation to 3 percent in the year to September in the 17 countries that use the euro. The euro was trading 0.6 percent lower at $1.35.

Under normal circumstances the increase may have prompted a euro rebound as investors priced in a lower probability of a rate cut next week from the European Central Bank. However, investors are worried about the growth outlook in Europe more than anything else and keeping rates high for longer than anticipated is likely to pinch the economy.

Earlier in Asia, Japan's Nikkei 225 swung between gains and losses before closing fractionally lower at 8,700.29. South Korea's Kospi also was in and out of positive territory before settling marginally higher at 1,769.65.

Shares in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Shenzhen sank after data showed China's manufacturing continued to stagnate in September. Hong Kong's Hang Seng slumped 2.3 percent to 17,592.41. Mainland's Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.3 percent to 2,359.22 and the smaller Shenzhen Composite Index lost 0.2 percent to 1,004.52.

Oil prices tracked equities lower ? benchmark oil for November delivery was down 66 cents at $81.48 per barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Oil up over 5 percent on hope for Europe debt deal

(AP) ? Oil rose more than 5 percent Tuesday on hopes that European leaders are closer to drafting a plan to contain the region's debt crisis.

Investors are encouraged that another recession can be avoided and demand for energy products ? from oil to diesel and gasoline ? will improve if Greece does not default on its debt. Greece's finance minister expects his country to receive the next round of bailout loans in time to avoid a default. German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that her country will do whatever it can to help Greece regain investor confidence.

Benchmark oil rose $4.21, or 5.3 percent, to finish at $84.45 per barrel in New York. Brent crude, which is used to price international varieties of oil, increased $3.20, or 3.1 percent, to $107.14 per barrel in London.

Stocks and commodities rose on the improving international picture. Gold broke a three-day slump and rose more than 4 percent. The Dow Jones industrial average, the Standard & Poor's 500 index and the Nasdaq composite all rose more than 2 percent.

Crude oil has fallen about 15 percent since July and is down 26 percent since hitting a high for the year of $113.93 per barrel on April 29.

"Worries about the economy are what drove prices down, and if things are going to stabilize and look more positive, then the belief is that demand is going to recover," said Tom Bentz, an analyst at BNP Paribas Commodity Futures. "We just follow what the economy is doing these days."

Andrew Lebow, MF Global senior vice president, said oil could start to fall again on any negative sign about the economy. "It's hard to say that this is really on very firm footing," he said.

In other energy trading, heating oil rose 8.27 cents, or 3 percent, to finish at $2.8857 per gallon, gasoline futures rose 10.76 cents, or 4.3 percent, to end at $2.6360 per gallon and natural gas was up 3 cents to finish the day at $3.875 per 1,000 cubic feet.

Executive Profiles: Disruptive Tech Leaders In Social Business ...

Welcome to an on-going series of interviews with the people behind the technologies in Social Business.? The interviews? provide insightful points of view from a customer, industry, and vendor perspective.? A full list of interviewees can be found here.

Daniel Debow, Co-CEO,? Rypple Software

Biography

Daniel is co-founder and co-CEO of Rypple, a social performance management platform that helps Facebook, Gilt Groupe, and other innovative companies recognize great work, run fast, efficient feedback loops, and coach employees to achieve their goals. A sought after speaker on how social media is changing the workplace, Daniel is a regular contributor to Fortune.com and the Huffington Post. He?s been widely quoted in Wired, the Financial Times, the Economist and Bloomberg Businessweek. He holds a JD/MBA from the University of Toronto and an LLM in Law, Science and Technology from Stanford University.

The Interview

1.? Tell me in 2 minutes or less why Social Computing is changing the world for your customers.

Daniel Debow (DB): Ray, at the heart of all this, we are people.? While it may seem like an oversimplification, large corporations have focused on delivering products and services so we can scale in a quick way.?? Unfortunately, we?ve seen a dramatic increase in the alienation of people from their work.? In order to get people to the next level, we have to bring the human back into the work place.? If you think about it, the era of process automation brought great hope. We wanted everyone to adhere to those processes to achieve efficiencies.? This worked for sometime when work fit into neat processes. However, we can no longer stop work from happening outside of the process.

Social reflects how people are talking to each other. How do we automate this and achieve faster flowing information?? Processes should be designed and improved around how people talk and communicate.? How do we achieve more? productive outcomes in the business?? Can we get the benefits in large scale environments?? The solution ? keep people more engaged and more accurately modeled around the reality of the company.? Software is about taking the metaphor, modelling the reality, and moving faster.

Over the past 40 years, we felt we could model reality of an org chart via process flows.? However this is not the best model as see the company as a social network not an org chart.? Organizations move things such as notes and processes and complex interactions into the cloud to improve efficiency. This is the high level of why and how we approach social.

The processes related to human performance and getting the most out of people are absolutely social.? They involve software and human things.??? Social software helps amplify things. You learn more about what happens with your friends and you can share faster.? For example, the things that drive business performance come back to people.? People management science is more than carrot and stick.? It?s about meaning and autonomy. It?s about mystery and candid thinking that involve people.? How do we recognize them?? How do we interact?? How do we get one-on-one?s with the boss.? What coaching and feedback is provided?? Do we have goals and not the archaic ones?? Are there real goals based on movement of people in real time?

This is the essence of social business processes.

2. What makes social computing disruptive?

DB: As with all disruptive technologies it meets three key criteria:

  1. It attacks a problem in an orthogonal way.? Almost all social technology appears at first to be a toy.? Customers don?t asking for them, yet they spread into companies like wild fire.? Users say, ?I?d never do this in the enterprise.?
  2. It breaks the price-performance curve on a different scale. In many cases, Rypple included, we make it cheaper to deploy than existing technology.
  3. It appears as an incomplete solution from the perspective of incumbents.? Incumbents will state you don?t have the 1000 features they have.

The telegraph, the phone, and email all changed the number of nodes of communication and improved the flow of information between people. Social technologies take communication to the next level. This isn?t just a technological shift; it?s a societal one. We are taking the same metaphors of openness and transparency that have been used to describe the web and applying them to organizations.

When you value results above internal politics and velocity over caution, you create a more innovative, less hierarchical?and ultimately disruptive?organization.

3.? What is the next big thing in Social Business software?

DB: Recently I was on a panel on the future of the workforce, where I talked about two huge developments on the horizon. The first is the shift from an economy of companies to an economy of individuals, as everyone?s reputation and personal brand moves to the cloud. It will be interesting to see what this means for consumer brands like Nike and Pepsi, and how people interact with them.

The second big shift is the ability of social media to create more meritocratic systems for rating true influence and power within organizations. Cloud-based social applications are asking people to rate one another and provide opinions based on far more objective data than the vague subjective impressions that often determine influence.

As that data migrates to the cloud and becomes portable, it will have profound changes on the labor market. It will transform how we look for talent, where the power resides, and potentially the very nature of the corporation.
As reputation becomes a more objective measure, it will force companies to become more fluid in their hiring practices and their operations.

4.? What are you doing that?s disruptive for Social Computing?

DB: Rypple is trying to live by the values we?ve been talking about?the values that our service provides to customers: transparency and visibility. We sell and market the product in a disrupitve way. You can try our product for free and decide on your own whether it has value. Our approach to marketing is to be as human and authentic as we can. We are helpful to people instead of being shills.? Without faking, we want you to buy our product.? We work hard to pull in all the key data people need to complete their jobs.

Just as important, we want to make the way people communicate at work more seamless and efficient?to surface all the data currently living in CRM, support, and product development and bring it into people?s daily work flow. This will lead to improved communication, collaboration, and ultimately business performance.

We are reinventing the way people manage their performance at work. The world has changed in the past 50 years, taking advantage of new technologies to bring a more efficient, just-in-time philosophy to so many parts of the organization. Yet performance management remains the same.? For the most part, it is conducted on pieces of paper?forms that may or may not have been automated for the desktop. We want to help companies deliver that? feedback immediately, when it can impact performance, rather than six months from now, when it?s too late. And we are changing the paradigm to consider how to make this process more social, more natural, and more relevant to business leaders, HR professionals, managers, and individual employees.

We don?t pretend to be creating Utopia. Organizations still need to implement and follow the best practices of engaging, coaching, and motivating their employees. We?ve just made that process far more efficient, intuitive, and fun.

You?ll see more announcements in the next few months.
5.? Where do you see technology convergence with Social?

DB: Today, we have many outside repositories such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter that work in concert with inside repositories. You no longer have to own the platform to create value. In our case, we?ll follow the Zynga strategy.? Find the platform people are using to interact at work?and build on top of it where there?s value.

We expect to move further in that direction with the information and knowledge contained in workforce process flows, such as support tickets and supply chain management. Beyond a simple automation of existing processes, we see a real opportunity to incorporate these sources of information into performance.

6. If you weren?t focused on Social Computing what other disruptive technology would you have pursued?

DB: Personally, it?d be music.? I?m passionate about music.? Can we find a way for students to learn faster, better, and share?? We need new learning mechanisms to help people accomplish this.? Can we create the right feedback loops? Part of what makes social software better is that it makes social feedback loops more effective.

Transparent decision making ties back to learning.? Take how John Boyd changed the effectiveness of fighter jets and military strategy through decision loops.? The team with the fastest decision making loops wins.

7.??? What?s your favorite science fiction gadget of all time?

DB: If I had to pick one gadget, it would be the time machine. The classic HG Wells type. I?ll need one that works and I?d just want to ensure I could get back to our time.

What you need to know about prostate cancer | Daily Republic

The medical community has worked diligently to increase awareness about prostate cancer and this education effort is paying off.

We?re seeing more cases of prostate cancer and most of these are in an early stage, which are curable.

Prostate cancer is the? No. 1 solid organ cancer in men; only skin cancer is more prevalent.

The lifetime risk for Caucasian men is one in six, and it?s even higher for African Americans ? one in five.

It?s rare for prostate cancer to present before 40, and it?s very common in men over 80.

While treatment is often successful, prostate cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer deaths among men. Only lung cancer takes more male lives.

Age is one of the biggest prostate cancer risk factors. Others considered to be at high risk are men with a family history of prostate cancer and blacks.

Obesity and diet also seem to play a role in whether men develop prostate cancer. The disease?s highest incidence is among black men in Oakland, while Japanese men in Japan are at the low-end of the scale.

In its early stages, prostate cancer doesn?t have any symptoms, which is why screening is so important.

The American Urological Association recommends those at high risk begin screening at age 40, but others can wait until 50.

Screening consists of a digital rectal exam and Prostate-Specific Antigen? test. While the blood test is the best indicator of whether prostate cancer is present, it often results in false-positives; it can indicate an infection, benign enlarged prostate, inflammation or recent ejaculation.

Further evaluation will determine if cancer is present. One of the newest available tools is a urine test that looks for the presence of a specific genetic marker indicative of prostate cancer.

In some cases we use surveillance as treatment, especially for men whose life expectancies are less than 10 years. Prostate cancer grows very slowly, so many men are more likely to die with it than from it.

One treatment we often recommend is removing the prostate. Since its job is to secrete fluid to protect sperm, it?s not a ?necessary? gland once men have passed their reproductive years.

In some men, we?ll recommend treatment with external beam radiation, which consists of brief exposure five days a week for eight weeks.

Another type of radiation is brachytherapy ?one-millimeter radioactive seeds implanted in the prostate release radiation slowly over a three-month period before becoming inert.

Hormone therapy is another treatment modality, one that can be combined with either surgery or radiation. Testosterone-blocking shots are the method of delivery.

One common concern among men undergoing surgery is the possibility of nerve damage resulting in impotence or incontinence. There are ways to spare nerves, especially with the increased use of robotic surgery.

Due to the procedure?s delicate nature, men should be sure their surgeon is highly experienced.

Given the success we?ve had with treating prostate cancer in its earlier stages, medical professionals will continue to stress the importance of screening.

The words ?cancer? and ?cure? aren?t often used together, but we can cure men of prostate cancer as long as it?s discovered early.

Go Green With The Green Party - News and Society

The American political system has really been fundamentally a two party one. But there are many other parties with members that almost never get elected which includes the Green Party. As apprehension for the environment gets larger, as a result so has the Green Party. The Green Party is a political belief, which tries to attain its goals of environmental and green issues, through judgements made by grassroots participation. Their goals as an advocate also include social and civil liberties, and non-violence and peace.

The Green Party?s four pillars are based on age-old ideas. The first pillar goes beyond the idea that being eco-conscious is choosing paper or plastic at the grocery store. It truly is an issue that calls for the world to develop into a global community. The next approach is the end to all kinds of discrimination including class, race, gender and customs. The very next pillar is the notion of a non-centralized government where power comes from the individual and the local communities. Last, the Green Party believes in using non-violence as a means of living, not resorting to violence in dealing with opponents.

The Green Party?s belief system is based on Quaker ideals and influenced by great leaders like Gandhi. Their purpose is to be better World neighbors and deal with other cultures to triumph over differing beliefs. Several Christians in America have approaches to deal with people whom belief systems they reject. Most democracies surely have a Green Party of some sort already founded. Many countries, like Norway, South Africa and Canada, have all have Green Parties.

Unfortunately, the culture of the United States, has made the establishment of the Green Party a difficult thing. Some of the most intolerant groups of people make their home in America. These folks have absolutely 0 % tolerance for people with philosophies, religions and races that are distinct from theirs. How can a land filled with groups of indignant bigots, who only get along with each other when they are opposed to groups that they do not agree with, find out how to live in harmony with the rest of the world. But those who are in the Green Party are very anti-war so if they ran the country, there will always be peace no matter what happens.

The platform of the Green Party is a vision for our country that comes from a eco-social analysis. The Green Party bases their decisions on every Green Party member and not some select group of bigwigs. Every individual should have a say in their life, unlike the deals made by power-brokers. The Green Party platform is a piece of content that is always innovating, just like a living-work-in-progress. It is arrived at by means of a democratic approach that needs final approval, and it communicates a commitment to long-term change. Their essential principles are greatly depicted in their own Ten Key Values document. These beliefs are a necessary guidebook to counter a system that respects exploitation, and destructive competition, together with consumption, bordering on waste.

Particles appear to travel faster than light: OPERA experiment reports anomaly in flight time of neutrinos

ScienceDaily (Sep. 23, 2011) ? Scientists with the OPERA experiment, which observes a neutrino beam from CERN 730 km away at Italy's INFN Gran Sasso Laboratory, are presenting surprising new results (in a seminar at CERN on Sept. 23, 2011) that appear to show neutrinos traveling faster than light.

The OPERA result is based on the observation of over 15000 neutrino events measured at Gran Sasso, and appears to indicate that the neutrinos travel at a velocity 20 parts per million above the speed of light, nature's cosmic speed limit. Given the potential far-reaching consequences of such a result, independent measurements are needed before the effect can either be refuted or firmly established. This is why the OPERA collaboration has decided to open the result to broader scrutiny. The collaboration's result is available on the preprint server arXiv (http://arxiv.org/list/hep-ex/new).

"This result comes as a complete surprise," said OPERA spokesperson, Antonio Ereditato of the University of Bern. "After many months of studies and cross checks we have not found any instrumental effect that could explain the result of the measurement. While OPERA researchers will continue their studies, we are also looking forward to independent measurements to fully assess the nature of this observation."

"When an experiment finds an apparently unbelievable result and can find no artefact of the measurement to account for it, it's normal procedure to invite broader scrutiny, and this is exactly what the OPERA collaboration is doing, it's good scientific practice," said CERN Research Director Sergio Bertolucci. "If this measurement is confirmed, it might change our view of physics, but we need to be sure that there are no other, more mundane, explanations. That will require independent measurements."

In order to perform this study, the OPERA Collaboration teamed up with experts in metrology from CERN and other institutions to perform a series of high precision measurements of the distance between the source and the detector, and of the neutrinos' time of flight. The distance between the origin of the neutrino beam and OPERA was measured with an uncertainty of 20 cm over the 730 km travel path. The neutrinos' time of flight was determined with an accuracy of less than 10 nanoseconds by using sophisticated instruments including advanced GPS systems and atomic clocks. The time response of all elements of the CNGS beam line and of the OPERA detector has also been measured with great precision.

"We have established synchronization between CERN and Gran Sasso that gives us nanosecond accuracy, and we've measured the distance between the two sites to 20 centimetres," said Dario Autiero, the CNRS researcher who will give this afternoon's seminar. "Although our measurements have low systematic uncertainty and high statistical accuracy, and we place great confidence in our results, we're looking forward to comparing them with those from other experiments."

"The potential impact on science is too large to draw immediate conclusions or attempt physics interpretations. My first reaction is that the neutrino is still surprising us with its mysteries." said Ereditato. "Today's seminar is intended to invite scrutiny from the broader particle physics community."

The OPERA experiment was inaugurated in 2006, with the main goal of studying the rare transformation (oscillation) of muon neutrinos into tau neutrinos. One first such event was observed in 2010, proving the unique ability of the experiment in the detection of the elusive signal of tau neutrinos.

The seminar will be webcast at http://webcast.cern.ch.

Military dogs and handlers patrol in Afghanistan (AP)

FORWARD OPERATING BASE JACKSON, Afghanistan ? After the suicide bombing, the U.S. Marine dog handler lay on a stretcher, his bloodied legs laced with shrapnel. They brought in his wounded dog, too. Blood dripped from the haunches of the Belgian Malinois.

Seven Afghans died in the insurgent attack on Sept. 8 near a Marine battalion headquarters in southern Afghanistan. Sgt. Kenneth Fischer and his dog, Drak, were flown by helicopter to a bigger base for emergency treatment, then out of the country for surgery. Both will head to Texas for rehabilitation, and eventually, in line with military custom, Fischer will adopt Drak and take him home.

"I have literally spent more time with Drak than I have my own daughter," Fischer, 27, said by telephone earlier this week from his hospital bed at a military medical center in Bethesda, Maryland. The Marine had worked with 4-year-old Drak for two years and spent a total of nine months in Afghanistan. His daughter, Cheyenne, is 19 months old.

Much is made of the bond among men at arms, but the union between man and dog in a combat zone seems just as tight. Handlers and canines that sniff for explosives or narcotics patrol together, day after day, linked by a leash and an innate understanding of each other. Sometimes, they sleep side by side in military cots. They face the same dangers together.

A unit of handlers and dogs operates out of Camp Leatherneck, the main Marine base in southern Afghanistan, home to insurgent strongholds. The teams fan out in Helmand province and beyond, working with Marines and other branches of the U.S. military, as well as Afghan forces and, at times, British troops.

Eight of the 30 handlers have been wounded this year, but Drak was the only dog to be wounded, said Staff Sgt. Morris Earnest, supervisor of the unit, which is part of the III Marine Headquarters Group. Half went home because of the severity of their injuries. Three of those lost limbs to homemade bombs, but their dogs emerged "without a scratch."

Tucked inside the Leatherneck compound, a memorial pays tribute to Marine Cpl. Max William Donahue, a dog handler killed last year, and dogs that have died in attacks or from heat exhaustion and other causes in past years. A simple white cross, erect in a bed of pebbles, lists their names on wooden plaques hanging from the crossbar: Frida, Grief, Murdock, Torry, Chico, Dixie, Patrick, Marko.

"From a few of the finest. To the finest of the few," the memorial reads.

On Aug. 6, 30 American troops and eight Afghans died in a helicopter crash in eastern Afghanistan, and a U.S. military dog on board was also killed.

Dogs serve a small but valued role for the U.S.-led coalition that seeks to quell Taliban groups and transfer security responsibilities to Afghan forces in time for the withdrawal of foreign combat troops by the end of 2014.

Ideally, the dogs, which include labradors and German and Dutch Shepherds, give an edge in unearthing boobytraps laden with explosives or detecting drugs in a region where the Taliban reaps profits from poppy harvests used in opium production. A handler and his dog usually follow behind a sweeper with a metal detector at the front of a single-file patrol.

An Associated Press team at Forward Operating Base Jackson, headquarters for the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, witnessed the early treatment of casualties after the Sept. 8 suicide bombing in the district center of Sangin. While Fischer and other wounded were cared for, a trio of dog handlers tended to Drak, muzzling and hoisting him onto a stretcher before rushing him to a helicopter.

"He should be OK," Fischer said 10 days later by telephone, his voice raspy after having tubes inserted down his throat during treatment. "At first, there was some talk about him losing one of his legs, but not so much anymore. Knowing Drak, he should be fine."

Drak, trained to find narcotics, is being treated at Dog Center Europe, a U.S. military facility in Germany. He will be transferred for more care at Lackland Air Force Base, a training site for military dogs in San Antonio, Texas.

Fischer plans to head there, too. His wife has family there, and he wants to be with Drak, whose name is a variation of Drac, or "devil" in Romanian.

"When he meets people, he can be calm and relaxed," the Marine said. "When we go outside, he's excited and rambunctious and likes to play, and I'm the same way."

What Drak doesn't like is shooting. During gunfire training, he lay down beside Fischer, calm and meek, until it was over. He did the same during a Taliban mortar attack.

"He is a very obedient dog," Fischer said. "He will only listen to me. Somebody else will be around and give him commands and he'll just look at them like they're stupid."

Fischer wants to resume his Marine Corps career. But, he said, Drak can spend his days lying around at Fischer's home at his duty station in Twentynine Palms, California, or playing frisbee, one of the dog's favorite activities. He acknowledged it will be "some time" before they get there because of their injuries.

Sgt. Mark Behl, a dog handler who helped Drak the day he was injured, said it helps to fit a calm handler with a "high drive" dog, or an "excited person with a bored dog."

Placid and amiable, Behl said his dog, a German Shepherd named Fuli, is "a handful."

Dog handling under the stress of danger is a subtle, pinpoint profession. Behl said he knows Fuli so well after two and a half years together that he can tell whether he is sniffing idly, perhaps on the trail of another animal's scent, or has detected something serious, such as the ingredients of crudely made explosives.

"There's a lot more to the job than just holding the leash," said Behl of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin. "I know to keep him moving or to let him work."

At the same time, he must know when to pull Fuli away from a threat, aware of the hidden bombs that have killed or maimed many troops in Afghanistan.

Fuli has a vexing habit during patrols in cornfields of running into adjacent rows of corn and getting his leash tangled around the stalks. But he plays ball with Marines back on base, boosting their morale.

"At the end of the day, the dog is going to come up and lick me in the face," said Behl, who grew up around dogs. "It's a little taste of home, just having an animal."

Why Finding The Right Windows And Doors For Your Home Is ...

Finding the right windows and doors for your home is going to be not only a good investment, but is also essential for your security. When you begin remodeling, plan ahead with all of the safety features it is possible to fit into these items.

There are so many choices you are not sure where to begin. And knowing where to shop is also confusing. There are hardware stores, home improvement stores, or even carpenters who can custom build doors to your specifications. The one thing you know is that you want the best you can find.

If you have done previous shopping expeditions to the places that offer all types of home improvement products you know how helpful they can be. Prices are good, warranties are in place for your satisfaction, and you know they will carry everything required to finish the job.

Hardware stores will have a selection, as well, maybe not as extensive but for some of the more common areas; they will probably work quite satisfactorily. And again, they will also carry the hardware that will be required. This is sort of like one stop shopping.

Choosing what kind of windows you want is going to be fun. There are so many styles that you will spend a lot of time trying to decide. Bay windows, Bow, or tip out are only the beginning of the styles you will be able to choose from.

Whichever style you choose, you know that it is going to add not only beauty, but value, to your home. A value that will only increase with time. The choices you make will also be valuable to you when they withstand the raging winds of the occasional storms that hit your neighborhood.

One very important thing to keep in mind with your new windows, you are going to have them for a long time. This is not something that gets replaced on a regular basis. When you shop, make sure the ones you choose are ones you will be happy with and not just a temporary fashion statement.

Doors built to withstand the wolf knocking will keep your family safe and provide a beautiful exterior for the world to admire. Choose from the traditional to the arched style. Double doors, ones with panes or ones with panels. An entrance that will be admired by all visitors is at your fingertips.

When you plan a special door for your patio or bedroom, keep security in mind as well. The beautiful french door can provide access for a lovely breakfast on the patio, but it can also be an easy entrance for unwelcome guests. So plan properly for this.

Finding the right windows and doors for your home is not the time to start cutting corners. Unless you plan on replacing these items every few years you want to get the highest possible quality. Sturdy doors and windows will not only look nice, but will add character to your home. Your home will retain all of the beauty that you have invested in it.

Sweet Tea Takes on a Whole New Flavor | Philam Foods

In America, tea is one of the most essential drinks in the south. It is most often paired with tons of sugar and the occasional lemon, but it stays the same throughout the southern half of the country. You can obviously find tea in other parts of the world, but it is made a little differently. In this case, we?ll be taking a look at some Filipino tea drinks to show you how they drink tea on the other side of the world. You may find some of the flavors there perfect for your lifestyle and taste buds.

Green Tea

Green tea has made its way into American culture, but not as much as it has in the Philippines. Green tea is a typical drink in most Asian countries, and it has a variety of health benefits within it. It can still provide a caffeine boost when you need one, but it will not cause you to gain weight like black tea will. You can pair this drink with many Filipino recipes for a full Filipino experience.

Apple Tea

Apple juice and flavoring is not used in American tea drinks very often, but it is used for some Filipino drinks. the apple flavoring gives a tart punch to tea that may be a nice contrast to the sweet tea you are used to drinking. Health nuts love fruit flavored tea, but this can take some getting used to if you are expecting a sweet flavor from your tea. It is still worth tasting if you have the chance to though.

Milk Tea

You can find versions of milk tea in many coffee shops throughout America, but it does not compare to the authentic milk tea you can get from the Philippines. The milk adds a froth and creamy texture to tea that is great for the morning, and it also makes for a great hot drink to consume during cold winter months. You can play around with different flavors of this like you would for coffee, and then you may have a creative tea drink all your own.
The next time you go to drink a cup of tea, think a little outside the box. You should be able to play around with the flavors from the Philippines enough to discover something you love.

The adventures of Bobby Ray continue. On Tuesday, a Cornell University newspaper reported that rapper B.o.B and his entourage skipped out on a $1,060 tab at a college town bar in Ithaca, New York, over the weekend.

It was all a big misunderstanding, B.o.B told MTV News. "Obviously, I have no problem paying a bill of more than $1,000, and when I left the bar, I did not know that the bill was not taken care of," said the MC, who was in town for a Cornell homecoming performance. "Sometimes people will give you one complimentary bottle or maybe two complimentary bottles, but in my head I'm always prepared to take care of the bill. I don't walk out on tabs."

According to the Cornell Daily Sun, B.o.B and his 11 guests ordered three $300 bottles of vodka and received a complimentary bottle of champagne at Level B, but when it came time to pay the bill (which also included a $160 gratuity charge), his team skipped out on the tab. "For me, I feel like whoever was responsible could've talked to me instead of using my name in an article. They could've talked to me first about it and I would've gladly paid the bill double for interest for not paying it," B.o.B said.

Bobby Ray has since paid the debt: "It's all good; we took care of it."

And although the rapper has been the subject of gossip blog posts over the incident, he insists that he has moved on and is focused on work for his sophomore album. "I'm working on my next album, it's almost done. I got a new single coming out, 'Strange Clouds' featuring Lil Wayne, so it's moving forward."
