Preparation for the Great Critical Incident: First Aid Emergency ...

By J.W. Caesar

Hosea 4: 6 (KJV) My people perish from a lack of knowledge.

Knowledge is power for survival when it comes to overcoming disasters. It is vital to get educated on how to survive in the event of a myriad disaster scenerios. Many people die or get injured because they did not adequately plan, prepare or mitigate for unseen emergencies. In order to win the war on disasters; American citizens must take disaster preparation seriously and strengthen themselves mentally, spiritually, and physically to overcome the challenges in the future.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency states on their website that there are actions that should be taken before, during, and after an event that are unique to each hazard. Each person or group should identify the hazards that have happened or could happen in their area and plan for the unique actions for each hazard. They further note that mitigation can be defined as actions to reduce loss of life and property by decreasing the impact of disasters.? What this means is??taking action now??before the next disaster?to reduce human and financial consequences later (analyzing risk, reducing risk, insuring against risk).? Effective mitigation requires that we all understand local risks, address the hard choices, and invest in long-term community well-being. Without these actions, people jeopardize their safety, financial security, and self-reliance and quality of life.

Building an emergency kit with first aid equipment and taking medical classes are best practices in mitigation that can assist in reducing risk and loss to families and the community.? It is important to analyze what type of hazards would affect the community during a disaster, as well the decision to shelter in place or evacuate to a safe location.? By following this risk analysis process, it would help clarify what type and size of container or bag to place first aid items inside, the quantity, what too and what not to pack, where to pack it, the environment, hazard scenario and number of people it can provide care too. Your first aid kit or emergency supplies should be designed around an all hazards approach that insures against the risk of not being able to treat or prevent hazards from overtaking you and your group. These hazards can cause temporary or permanent damage to the critical infrastructure of this nation. Therefore everyone should be a stakeholder in public safety and security of this nation. As a result, many are designing their first aid kits around temporary disaster events where there is a short recovery period, while others are preparing their kits for a total collapse of the system where medical resources will be hard to find.

Caution: for medical legal and health safety reasons-Disaster Preparers should think about:

  1. Preparing physically, mentally, and spiritually now to adapt to changes caused by impact of disasters and?continuity of civil and infastructure recovery.
  2. Familiarizing with their local, state and federal laws on the boundaries of giving care to humans, pets and livestock.
  3. Getting prior training on how to use the items in the first aid kit.
  4. Working as a trained and covenant group, not loner.
  5. Trying to get written certification or medical authority to perform certain procedures.
  6. Not going beyond their scope of practice or their medical certifications.
  7. Abiding by the local laws of what is allowed in your first aid or medical kit.
  8. (Personal, Force, Asset?Protection)Avoiding making themselves a target for thieves, murderers, drug addicts that use false emergency scenes or requests for help.

A first aid kit can be purchased at many stores, disaster preparedness organizations and online merchants. Medical supplies can also be purchased individually to build your own kit.? Some have also combined the two as one mitigation measure. Others have crafted their own replacement first aid products by improvising. They use tampons for bleeding, card board for splints, and other homemade items, or pet supplies for their kit?s inventory. The real issue is finding the right items and kit skin for your needs. There are many questionable claims to first kits such as the number of people that it can actually treat in an emergency, the quality, sterility and durability of items, the protective covering of the container or bag and excessive prices for minimal supplies. This is why it is vital to do a risk analysis and make appropriate mitigation decisions for your own needs from an all hazards approach.

Medical Supplies and their Skins

Medical supplies for a first aid kit can be put inside of a various items that are all weather resistant, waterproof, durable, floatable, not previously had any toxic or corrosive materials stored inside of it, and clearly marked as a first aid or medical kit. Ziploc bags and plastic trash bags can give extra all weather protection and longetivity of items. The kit should also be easy to carry with straps or handles, have reasonable space or compartments for medical items, and easy to open or secure during an emergency. The size and type of first aid emergency kit may be based on varied factors such as the personal needs of the individual, group, or community, different hazards, ?medical training, number of sick and injured, terrain, response time, life cycle of disaster, use with vehicles, walking distance, evacuation, and weather.

Examples:

  • Military Unfolding zippered Aid Bag M-3 & M-17
  • Military Chest with handles
  • Military Aid Station chest containers
  • Military hard plastic or metal containers
  • Nylon, Leather or Canvas Back Packs
  • Luggage with wheels and handle
  • Purse or designer bag
  • Lunch box
  • Square or rectangle storage containers
  • Tupperware containers
  • Plastic Ice Cream or used Food Containers
  • Hunting vests
  • Belt Pouches

A well-stocked and well maintained list of items in the first aid kit should be kept up to date at all times by rotating and replacing items.? A best practice for maintaining the mitigation investment of life saving equipment is doing inventory and preventative maintenance checks before and after using the kit. It can take place on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly cycle. ?The outside and inside of the emergency kit should be inspected for damage such as cracks, tears or holes. Mitigations measures such as health safety inspections for spoilage and expiration dates of items are important also.? However, some questions have been raised about keeping items regardless of expiration dates because of future scarcity of items during extreme disaster periods. These questions should be addressed by medical authorities who are expert in disasters and laws of the land. ?In any case, some items can lose their shelf life, sterility, durability, and may become toxic because of the hot storage temperatures. Another temperature issue is freezing. ?Solutions can freeze causing the containers to crack and break causing contamination of other items or damaging the first aid container.

The kit should work as expected: treat injuries and save life when you need it and cause no harm when it is not needed. It is vital to verify that the items consisting within the kit still function as expected, including the batteries in the medical equipment. The first aid kit should be stored in a place that is of the right temperature for medical supplies, in a safe location, away from pests, where no damage can occur, can be accessible to adults, but not to children or pets that can be poisoned and injured.

In summary, disasters can happen at anytime and anyplace. The consequences of not preparing for them may be immeasurable. To minimize this risk, it is vital to mitigate these impacts by building an emergency first aid kit based on analyzing, reducing, and insuring against future risks. It would be wise to assemble an emergency first aid kit that is adaptable and maintainable for your needs, take first aid classes, get familiarized with medical ? legal laws, learn how to take protective measures in emergency situations, and establish mutual-aid and covenant partnerships well in advance of an emergency situation. All of these steps help reduce the impact of hazards associated with future events and improve the chances of winning the war over disasters.? Americans, must remember that everyone is a stakeholder in public safety, God given freedoms, continuity of civil government,?and protecting the critical infastructure and key resources of this nation.

Rams edge 49ers 16-13 in overtime

ST. LOUIS (AP) ? No way the St. Louis Rams wanted another tie.

So Greg Zuerlein kicked a 54-yard field goal with 26 seconds left in overtime to give the Rams a 16-13 win over the San Francisco 49ers 16-13 on Sunday, avoiding a second tie in three weeks against the NFC West leaders.

The rookie's winning kick came after he sent the game into overtime with a 53-yard field goal as time expired in regulation

The Rams (5-6-1) scored twice in the final 3:04 of regulation, getting their lone touchdown when rookie Janoris Jenkins returned an errant pitchout by Colin Kaepernick 2 yards for a score. They've won two straight after an 0-4-1 skid.

The 49ers (8-3-1) failed to take advantage of a 14-yard punt by rookie Johnny Hekker to midfield when David Akers was barely wide right on a 51-yard attempt with 4:11 to go in overtime. Akers is just 7 for 15 from 40 yards and beyond.

Zuerlein is 7 for 11 from the 50 and beyond and had plenty of distance on the kick on fourth-and-inches. Before the 53-yarder at the end of regulation, he had missed four of his previous seven attempts including a 58-yarder near the end of the half.

The last time teams tied twice in a season was in 1963 in games between the Eagles and Steelers. The last time teams had two ties in a season was in 1973 when it happened to four teams.

The first 49ers-Rams meeting this season was the NFL's first tie in four seasons, and was a lot more wide open with both teams missing chances to end it in overtime.

Most of the game was a defensive struggle, nothing like the 24-all tie in San Francisco. Michel Crabtree was a rare offensive standout with seven catches for 101 yards, while rookie Chris Givens had 11 receptions for 92 yards.

Akers' 33-yard field goal put the 49ers ahead with 1:38 remaining, a score set up by Kaepernick's 50-yard carry on a rollout. It left just enough time for Sam Bradford to guide the Rams 45 yards in seven plays.

The 49ers' Frank Gore scored the only offensive touchdown of the game on a 1-yard run late in the first quarter.

Kaepernick's run to the St. Louis 14 at the two-minute warning behind a convoy that included Gore, who upended linebacker Rocky McIntosh. It compensated somewhat for his errant pitchout that handed the Rams their lone touchdown and set up the go-ahead field goal.

Kaepernick was well off the mark on a pitch to Ted Ginn Jr. from the 17, and Jenkins fell on it at the 2 before flopping into the end zone. The second-round pick out of North Alabama returned two interceptions for touchdowns last week in a victory at Arizona.

Kendricks beat coverage from Patrick Willis as the Rams succeeded even after a false start penalty on tackle Rodger Saffold.

A questionable roughing the passer penalty on Rams end Robert Quinn contributed to a 13-play, 94-yard drive starting from the 1 that set up a 23-yard field goal by Akers for a 10-2 lead with 8:43 to go. The Rams aired several slow-motion replays of Quinn, while getting blocked by two players, tapping Kaepernick's facemask with his helmet after a throw.

Kaepernick also hit Crabtree for a 30-yard gain on the drive.

The Rams failed on fourth-and-1 from the 4 earlier in the game when Bradford couldn't connect with Austin Pettis in the right corner of the end zone against double coverage, leaving them with nothing to show for their best possession of the game. St. Louis had four first downs, matching the first-half total, while going 74 yards on 11 plays in nearly seven minutes.

Both teams kept it close to the vest in the first half with the 49ers outgaining the Rams 113-85 and putting together one nice drive, going 60 yards on 11 plays with three third-down conversions, capped by Gore's 1 yard scoring run late in the first quarter.

Kaepernick scrambled for one of the first downs and threw for two others, the last a 7-yard catch by Mario Manningham to the 1 one play before the touchdown.

Zuerlein had the distance on his 58-yard attempt with 25 seconds to go in the first half, but was well wide to the right. In the first meeting at San Francisco, Zuerlein was wide right on a 58-yarder in overtime after making a 53-yarder that was nullified by a delay of game call.

The Rams wore retro jerseys from their 1999 championship season, featuring yellow numbers and striping, and marked the franchise's 75th anniversary. Several former players were introduced at halftime with fan favorites who played in St. Louis such as Isaac Bruce and Todd Lyght getting the strongest ovations.

The new railroad terminal was heralded as the "Gateway to America's Greatest City" when it opened on February 1, 1913

While great ocean liners plied the waves, and glorious skyscrapers changed the skyline, the Grand Central Terminal opened in New York City on February 1, 1913. It was so much more than just a large train station: it was designed, promoted and built as the gateway to a new era of prosperity and progress.

Kpop Roleplay?

Is anyone interested in doing a 1x1 kpop roleplay? I've been waiting around for one to surface, but from my snooping around on the site, I noticed that most of the roleplays related to kpop are either super old or died before even getting off the ground. I know I can't be the only lover of korean culture on this site!

I was thinking more on the lines of a kpop/kdrama sort of dealio. I'd really like for it do be based around korean teens who are influenced in some way by kpop. These are my ideas (so far), but I'm open to other ideas as well:

-A Kpop idol (male) is being schooled at a prestigious and expensive school of music. One day after hours, he is heading back from a late-night dance practice to his dorm. He notices that one of the lights is on in one of the other dance rooms and goes to investigate. There, he sees a girl (with short hair) practicing some dance moves and is impressed. However, he doesn't see the face of nor gets the name of the girl before he leaves. The next day, the idol guest stars on a show that holds open auditions for boys who want to be kpop idols. While judging a contestant, he recognizes the dance as the same dance he'd seen the girl practicing the night before. Just as he is about to point out her gender, she explains her situation (will be specified later) and decides to keep her gender a secret, even after she is chosen as one of three boys that will be mentored under him.
---The kpop idol has a rough personality, but isn't mean. He goes out of his way to help those around him, but his attitude and rude way of doing this make him seem heartless and mean. He is very misunderstood but also very talented.
---The girl is headstrong, fiery, and a little bit insecure. She will fight tooth and nail to get what she wants, but she fears that she isn't good enough to succeed in her dream. She is easy to pick on and is often bullied by the two other boys.
---The two other boys are more like characters that get in the way of things. They're both extremely rude - think of them like the evil stepsisters of the girl - and get what they want by tearing other people down.

-Two kpop idols-in-training go through a period of uncertainty. They work for the same company, but have not met before. After the guy finishes his dance practice, his room is taken by the girl. While dancing, she accidentally spills water over some of his expensive, forgotten belongings and ruins them. He walks in while she is cleaning up and demands she compensates. However, since she is new to the company, she is low on money and cannot pay him back. They make a deal that she will be his personal servant for a month and half of the debt will become void. If she cannot pay the rest of the money by the end of the month, she must continue work a second month in order to pay off the rest of the debt.
---The guy is cold and insensitive. He feels as though people only like him for his talent and not for his personality. He is actually very lonely and is seeking for someone to grow close to him. He can be extremely affectionate to those he cares about.
---The girl is dedicated but in over her head. She has a habit of always giving herself too much to do, flustered, and clumsy - this doesn't mean, however, that she isn't smart. She is talented, but the company seems to fear that her personality will ruin their reputation.

-After a late-night concert, the lead singer of a kpop girl-group is walking home and is attacked by a couple of muggers. She is saved by a mysterious and handsome boy, but just as he is writing his phone number on her palm, a reporter spots her and snaps her picture. The next day, news that the two are dating has sprung up around the country and her manager is horrified at the false allegations. In order to dodge a risky situation, the manager steals the boy's number from the singer's phone and hires him as a kpop-trainee. Surprisingly, the boy is talented and shows potential even when they first meet. Later on, the singer is at home and has a visitor ringing the doorbell. She opens the door to see the boy with a suitcase, who lets himself in and moves in with her, explaining that they'll be living together until news of their relationship dies down.
---The singer is a delicate, kind girl who enjoys pleasing others. She is very naive and innocent and often trusts people too easily. Aside from these attributes, she is respectable, morally-strong, and a hard-worker.
---The boy is someone veiled in mystery. He almost seems to be the reincarnation of Romeo as he quickly falls in love with the singer. He enjoys playing with people's feelings but doesn't view love as something real.... yet.

PM me or reply to this post if you are interested!
Just FYI, I am looking for someone to play the male role. This someone should be qualified in writing and have experience in it.
Thanks! (:

Magazine of the week: Cover | FF3300 ? Blog

Last week, we posted about the apparent similarities between Grey London?s Printer Orchestra spot for Brother and James Houston?s Big Ideas (don?t get any) graduation film from 2008. The issues raised in the piece, and subsequently on Twitter, touch on familiar rows about copyright and plagiarism. Here, we explore both sides of the story in detail

?

Brother, Printer Orchestra ad, 2012

?

In our post, Grey stated they they were aware of Houston?s film (shown below) but that it was just one of many other references discussed in the making of the ad (shown above). Since then, and following accusations of ?ripping-off? from commenters on YouTube and concerns raised by Houston, Brother?s European marketing and communications manager Antony Peart issued a statement saying that Brother was ?concerned to read some of the views expressed here? and that ?they have asked [Grey] to investigate the points being raised and to reassure us about the creative process behind it.?

?Brother asked us to investigate the making of the campaign, to reassure them that we acted properly and ethically throughout the process,? say Grey. ?We have done so, thoroughly. Brother are satisfied that no wrongdoing took place and [as far as they are concerned] the matter is now closed.?

?

James Houston, Big Ideas (don?t get any), 2008

In an effort to bring clarity to all this, CR has spoken to all parties concerned: James Houston, Grey London, the production company who originally contacted Houston regarding working on the ad, B-Reel, and Partizan, the production company who made the final ad.

?When we were asked to launch Brother?s new range of printers, we wanted to show the old world of printing being left behind. The choice to use old machines was a strategic one to demonstrate how times (ie technology) have moved on,? Grey say. ?When thinking about how to bring this idea to life, we were inspired by a number of artists who have deconstructed machinery to make music from them. Our first inspiration was Printer Music from 2002 (shown below) featuring a Brother printer making music. We briefed B-Reel (and two other production companies including Partizan who ultimately won the pitch) on May 28, 2012. We sent them the brief (shown below) to create an orchestra of old machines as a homage to the ?old world of printing? thus showcasing Brother?s new technology. As inspiration, we also sent the Printer Music link to all the production companies. The only reference we initially sent to the production companies was Printer Music.?

Grey London?s brief for the Brother ad

B-Reel executive producer Philippa Allen says that ?When we first got the brief through [from Grey] we had a script that didn?t mention James or his film. It just mentioned the idea.? She confirms that Grey sent them the Printer Music link at that stage. ?Then, as extra stimulus material, they sent other links they?d found ? one of them was James Houston?s work. James is right that his film was looked at early on in the pitch process,? she continues, ?but it wasn?t like ?this is the only thing we?ve seen and this is what we want to do? ? that wasn?t the case.?

We asked Grey if Houston?s film was referenced at any stage and if so in what terms. Grey told us that they subsequently referenced ?a number of other films and artists that have shown office equipment making music. These included [The User] (Symphony #1 for dot matrix printers, 1998); Younnat (Dot Matrix Printer Etude, 1998); the works of bd594; Tristram Cary, ?the father of electronic music?, whose most revered work came in the 1960s-70s; and James?s ?Big Ideas? film.? Grey confirmed Allen?s account that Houston?s film was only ever referenced and used legitimately, as inspiration.

In an email to CR, Houston says that B-Reel first contacted him on May 29. He was under the impression that B-Reel had asked him to be involved in a ?recreation? of his Big Ideas (don?t get any) film for Brother. However, Allen now clarifies that ?We were never talking about ?recreating? James?s video. It was one of a number of references we looked at, and not the first. We wanted to talk to him because of his experience, but Grey did not ask us to recreate his Radiohead film. Our feeling, when we saw the different references and we saw James? film, was to say to Grey, ?we?d like to talk to this guy because he?s already done something like this and we?d quite like to tap into his knowledge? so we started talking to him. At this point it wasn?t even a formal pitch, it was just scoping out an idea,? she says.

According to Houston, he then sent B-Reel a ?rough schedule, I quoted them an artist?s fee, my daily rate and the price of the components needed. This sum would give them the right to use my concept and treatment. I ordered microprocessor boards, enlisted the help of another programmer, warmed my trusty soldering iron and started to source donor machines.?

Allen confirms that Houston sent B-Reel an email with this information, ?however we never guaranteed a fee for his involvement,? she maintains. ?He didn?t write a treatment, a B-Reel director wrote the treatment that was our pitch to Grey. We did have to make it clear to James that he wasn?t going to direct the film if we won the pitch ? we were very clear that we?d have to bring in a commercials director and he understood that.?

?This wasn?t a new concept and treatment I presented them. I was referring to the concept and treatment of my Big Ideas video,? Houston claims. However, Allen contends that Houston was involved because of his expertise as a filmmaker, not in order to use or copy his concepts or any treatment written by him.

Houston says: ?I told Rob Leonard [a freelance producer B-Reel hired to work on the job] I had to buy components. The deadline was very tight and some of the parts were coming from abroad, so they absolutely had to be ordered at that stage.? However, according to Allen, ?During the pitch process James made a test film as we were worried about the track not working. We weren?t aware at the time that he had spent his own money on buying machines, we assumed he had relevant machines/parts in his studio.?

Houston has expressed concerns that some of his work and suggestions made in the initial stages of developing the idea may have been made use of in the final ad. However, Allen says, ?James never sent Grey anything directly, he was communicating his thoughts and ideas with B-Reel only and obviously we were asking what James would need to make it so we could put a budget together. What has to be clear is that he didn?t give Grey or Brother a ?this is how you do it? document on how to make the ad. He fed information to B-Reel, some of which we included in our pitch to try and win the job.?

Grey add: ?Throughout the pitch process, we had no direct contact with James whatsoever. James only dealt with B-Reel. We?ve never received any specific information from James, or through B-Reel (such as ?a shopping list of parts? and a ?breakdown of costs?), neither did we request it. We never shared the information we did receive with anyone else. All elements of the final film were either in the original brief or conceived independently by Partizan.?

As regards credit, Houston says ?I sent the following email to B-Reel with a spreadsheet of detailed cost breakdown when we were negotiating terms: ?It would be great if I could at least get a co-director credit on this project, and a sensible fee to reflect that this ad is a direct remake of my film. The copyright on Big Ideas is held by me and The Glasgow School of Art ? It would be useful for us both if I was officially seen as having some part to play in the creative output of this. It?d be great for when we win all the D&ADs too.?

However, Allen comments: ?We were getting costs from James for our budget, but at this stage we were not negotiating. Again, the ad wasn?t a direct remake, and we wouldn?t have said this to James. The issue of copyright was never discussed as it?s not possible to have copyright over making music from old machines. We told James he would not get a director or co-director credit. We said we would give him an ?artist? credit should we be awarded the job and we would of course have then negotiated an appropriate fee for his time and involvement in the production.?

Houston says that ?I was keen to further my career as a director on this project, I?m a filmmaker first and foremost. B-Reel insisted on using one of their own directors but as way of compensation they offered to fund an exhibition in London to coincide with the Brother launch. This solo exhibition would feature the entire orchestra playing live so visitors could see that it wasn?t all done using CGI. There would also be a documentary showcasing my work and me as an artist. I was to be allowed to keep all the equipment after the project was completed and use it in further personal work. I was really happy.?

Allen responds that ?We were talking about the possibility of doing a live event but not as compensation to James. It was not a solo exhibition, it was a creative suggestion to do a live version of the ad. Whether or not it was a live event or in a studio was not James? decision. It was something we were exploring as a production company. We did not discuss a documentary at all, we talked about doing a ?making of?, where James along with the director and crew would have been featured, but it was not a documentary about him. We said James could keep the machines (if we had sourced them, not Grey and only if that had been agreed by Grey).?

B-Reel lost out on the pitch to Partizan and it was director Chris Cairns who made the final film. Allen says that when she heard they had lost, she emailed Grey to suggest that they talk to Houston if they didn?t intend to involve him as she was aware that he felt ?sensitive? about the project. Houston says that ?After I found out that B-Reel hadn?t won the pitch, I called Grey and was flatly told that I?d no longer be involved. I have received no money for the work done, or for the rights to my concept and approach.?

Grey confirmed that Allen suggested to them that they get in touch with Houston when she found out B-Reel hadn?t won the pitch. They also say they had emailed Houston on June 19 during the pitch process but claim they heard nothing back until after the pitch process had been completed. Houston explained to us that he?d ignored the email from Grey thinking they were a competing production company also pitching for the job. However, it was Houston who called Grey the day after B-Reel found out they hadn?t won the pitch. ?On this call, we made it clear we were not remaking or copying his 2008 film,? say Grey. ?Furthermore, despite his demands for payment via Twitter since the film went live on November 5, the issue of compensation was never raised by James during this call.? Grey?s position, CR believes, is that they never employed or instructed Houston to do any work for them.

In summary: Houston is concerned about the apparent similarities between his film and the final ad. However according to Partizan, Grey and B-Reel, at no point were the production companies pitching on making the ad asked to ?remake? or copy Houston?s film and nor did they do so. ?Our film was not a direct remake of James?s, was never intended to be and was not briefed to production companies as such,? Grey say. The first reference sent to production companies as inspiration in relation to the Brother ad, Grey and B-Reel say, was of a film from 2002 (Houston?s film was made in 2008). According to B-Reel and Grey, Houston was never in contact with the agency regarding how to make the ad and none of his suggestions were passed on to Partizan, the production company that won the pitch and went on to make the ad, or Chris Cairns personally. A post on Partizan?s site states that ?the film is inspired by other kindred tinkerers and electronic adventurers, like Tristram Cary, James Houston and BD594?.

For their part, Partizan contend that their film is manifestly different to Houston?s: ?Everyone likes to think that their ideas are entirely original. Unfortunately the idea of machines making music both literally and metaphorically goes back a good 40 years. The aim of our film was to develop that idea and execute it on a much grander scale than had been done previously by creating an orchestra, which is what we achieved. James Houston?s film for Radiohead was one of the many inspirations for the film. But it wasn?t the first. The first we were given was ?Printer Music? from 2002 featuring a Brother printer making music. [The User] (Symphony #1 for dot matrix printers, 1998); Younnat (Dot Matrix Printer Etude, 1998); the works of bd594; Tristram Cary and James Houston followed. The goal of the director is always to create something fresh and for a director such as Chris Cairns creating a film demonstrably different to the reference is always of paramount importance.?

In response, Houston says: ?I encourage your readers to look at the other works listed as reference. Of them all, only James Cochrane?s and mine feature more than one type of ?instrument?. James Cochrane (BD594) is a technology enthusiast from Canada. He has publicly acknowledged that he directly lifted my idea in his excellent YouTube videos. He didn?t sell my concept to anyone and I believe his heart is in the right place. Grey?s advertisement covered an existing well known music track, just like Big Ideas. They used hardware to defamiliarise a familiar song. All of the other references are ?original compositions?. I?d contest that my work is much closer in concept and execution than anything else presented.

?People have been making printer music for years,? he continues. ?I believe I?m the first filmmaker to separate the component parts of an existing well known music track and cover it with multiple types of instruments (printers and scanners and hard drives etc.). All of the other references cited, aside from BD594?s, used only one instrument. One would wonder why Grey decided to use unrelated components like hard drives, scanners and floppy drives on an advertisement about printers.

?I?d also like to draw attention to the way in which both films [Houston's and the Brother ad] were shot, directed and edited,? Houston says. ?Grey?s video doesn?t look or feel like anything else on their list. It looks and feels like Big Ideas and Polybius, films I created before their advert launched. Perhaps Partizan would like to explain how they see Cairns? film as ?demonstrably different? from mine, aside from a larger budget and a company logo whacked on. Increasing the scale of an existing idea with a huge budget doesn?t change that core idea,? Houston claims.

Above, still from Houston?s recent Polybius film which screened on Channel 4. Watch it here.

Commenters on YouTube and Twitter have leaped to condemn Grey and rally to Houston?s support offering their opinions about the merits of his case and urging him to take action. However, Allen says ?We go through this all the time ? you see something that was in your pitch and can kind of feel like ?oh great they?ve taken our ideas from the pitch and someone else has made them? but then we never know if another director has had exactly the same idea/s ? although in this case our treatment was different to Chris?s film. The thing is, we?re used to it, the pitching process, we?ve done it for years and sometimes you don?t win and in some cases you can feel that the ad is exactly as you pitched it, but that?s the business we work in and we ? production companies ? accept that because that?s how it is. It?s such a fine line between inspiration and plagiarism and the truth is that James doesn?t have a copyright over making music out of machines. It would be different if Grey had come to us and shown us James? film and said ?this is what we want but on a bigger scale?, but that wasn?t how the conversation unfolded.?

Houston however says that ?If anyone tries to discredit me with ?not understanding the pitching process?, I?d claim they don?t understand the ?creative? process. I?ve been working on commercial jobs since 2008, I understand the pitching process.?

?I feel for James because he?s a graduate and trying to build his career,? Allen says. ?As a production company we thought that it would be great to work with him on it because it made sense on a practical level because he had the technical know-how. The situation that?s unfolded since the viral aired is unfortunate for all parties. Ultimately we tried to pitch this project, like every other, using best practice.?

While Houston says that he feels ?quite justified to be upset?, Allen contends ?Unfortunately, on Twitter misunderstandings can spread like wildfire, and we end up here.?

The Georgia Legislature voted to abolish the energy tax in order to be more competitive in luring big industries to Georgia since Florida, Alabama and South Carolina do not currently have an energy tax. &nbsp/&nbspAshley Knight

ALBANY, GA -- Commissioners from both the city and county met to discuss an excise tax that would reinstate a 2% tax on manufacturers of energy after the energy tax is phased out.

The Georgia Legislature voted to abolish the energy tax in order to be more competitive in luring big industries to Georgia since Florida, Alabama and South Carolina do not currently have an energy tax.

Industries were being taxed 7% for energy consumption--4% of that was going to state tax. Imposing an excise tax would restore 2% of that lost revenue. The tax would be a county tax and, if adopted, the city would have the opportunity to enter into an intergovernmental agreement and receive a portion of that revenue. Commissioners will have 30 days to form a decision.

Spokesperson for Proctor and Gamble, Vince Falcione says they appreciate local commissioners supporting the abolishment of the energy tax, meanwhile they understand local leaders must do what's best for the county and the area.

Digital Personal Servers (VPSs) exist in the kind of center floor concerning less costly shared internet hosting and a lot more extravagant devoted servers. This would make them advantageous to get a large number of web site web hosting predicaments. A VPS may well be appropriate for you personally if any of those adhering to occasions use:

one. You want a little more general performance

Is your web site commencing to outgrow its shared web hosting? Think you?re buyers complaining of sluggish reaction periods? Understandably it really is time and energy to examine heading around a much better stage of internet hosting. Digital Non-public Servers are much like shared internet hosting in that multiple digital server could be hosted on the web-site ? which will help retain the value down. Nonetheless they also have a tendency to obtain more suitable overall performance, given that just about every digital server will get a hard and fast shared belonging to the host?s sources. There is certainly no way for a single digital server to ?hog? the means that other digital servers relating to the host demand ? that is a typical dilemma in shared internet hosting occasions.

two. You would like a great deal more balance

In a very shared internet hosting setting, different internet sites are operate from the solitary functioning method in the server. Thereby, challenges with considered one of these webpages could potentially cause situations to the server ? which leads to troubles for most of the other online websites hosted on that server! Virtualization allows for the a wide range of digital servers to operate about the bodily host, and every digital server has it can be possess running platform and products and services. Regardless of whether 1 digital server crashes, it?s no outcome in the slightest degree over the other people. Also if a person digital server commences to ?hang? as a consequence of dilemmas by using a database (by way of example) ? that digital server may be securely restarted lacking impacting the most people.

three. You will want a lot more protection

Internet sites managing on the shared web hosting system are all functioning inside the identical working process, and over the file scheme. Which means that theoretically 1 shared internet hosting shopper could in a single way or one more have an effect on the data files that make up the web site of a further, or potentially reap the benefits of stability flaw to someway have an affect on an extra shopper over the server. VPS shoppers commonly are not as susceptible to those perils, as the virtualization software systems stops any like event. In terms of the digital server?s know, they can be wholly distinct from every other digital servers that will be operating to the host.

four. You absolutely need further command

If you are working an online site inside a shared internet hosting atmosphere, the web hosting business enterprise is pressured to position some constraints on what can or won?t be able to be carried out around the server, to be able to ensure high-quality of server to other purchasers within the server. To illustrate, you simply can?t hope the internet hosting provider to permit you to reboot the server anytime you prefer ? it might require down each of the other client?s internet websites that are hosted on that server! Furthermore, there is a number of types of customized configurations that could be valuable with your websites, but possibly will adversely have an impact on another shoppers, and thus cannot be permitted. In case your webpage or internet app desires even more manage in excess of the atmosphere it is working in, then a VPS will probably be great. You receive ?root? usage of your VPS ? in a less costly amount than the usual complete blown focused server!

To my understanding, shared hosting vs dedicated server may be the perfect guide for additional facts.

Enough with the Black Hair Obsession; Focus on What Matters ...

I learned of Gabby Douglas?s win on Facebook. But just a few posts down, I also learned about the derogatory comments about her hair. Yes, her hair! What a shame. The first African American female to win Olympic gold in the all-round gymnastics competition gets attacked online for her hairstyle.

Really?

Maybe you have read the negative comments online or maybe you haven?t. Needless to say, some people have nothing better to do than to demean others on social media.

I consider Gabby Douglas to be a role-model for young girls everywhere. Not only is she a gold medalist, but she?s also a young woman of faith. I?m sure I was just one of millions of people who heard her say she meditates on scripture to calm her nerves. If that?s not enough, she?s articulate, poised, and gracious ?always giving her teammates props and deflecting the spotlight off of herself. I can?t wait to see her biography in the children?s section of the bookstore one day. Gabby Douglass will be on the cover, and I will purchase it for my daughter.

I know we don?t know her personal life, but the positive image she has portrayed on television for an entire week, should be enough for us to stop obsessing over her hair and to start celebrating her accomplishments. It?s time for us to focus on what really matters.

What matters is that we see what commitment and discipline will get you in life.

What matters is that other black girls can see someone who looks like them on prime time television , namely someone who isn?t cursing, shaking her rear-end, or fighting in the streets.

What matters is that Gabby Douglass broke the color barrier in world class sport.

Those things matter, not hair.

Sadly, people complain about disgraceful reality television shows that perpetuate stereotypes and promote negativity. But, when the true reality of a beautiful and successful young black woman graces our television screens, instead of celebrating her, we judge her.

A part of me hopes that Gabby doesn?t read the comments. But even if she does, I don?t think they would phase her. She?s already proven that in the face of opposition (and competition), she?s secure in her faith and confident in her ability to beat the odds.

Congratulations Gabby. We are proud of you!!!

BMWK, let?s show our love for Gabby in the comment section.

Best WDW theme parks for really young kids and teens? - Talk Disney

Re: Best WDW theme parks for really young kids and teens?

Magic Kingdom is the place for the little ones...definitely! There are lots of attractions they'll like. I'm sure another member who has kids (I don't) will tell you which ones their kids liked the best. I'm thinking Small World, Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh, and the new Fantasyland.

There are some rides at MK the teens might like: Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain...

The teens should also like Disney's Hollywood Studios because of the thrill rides Tower of Terror and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster. While you're there, go on The Great Movie Ride, Star Tours, Muppets 3D, and Toy Story Mania.

Currently individuals are becoming better about buying the insurance as they have an assortment of options to choose from and they?re well informed of the relevance of insurance. Centered upon their specifications, like some want build-up of income value, some desire living lengthy safety, they select various insurance plans. Entire life insurance calculator is one particular insurance strategy. Before we give attention to the cons and pros, let?s to start with know very well what is very existence insurance calculator. It is a permanent insurance cover which gives life long safety along with cash benefit. A component of the payments paid by the policyholder are used for generating ventures which makes out interest and are amassed in the kind of insurance income value. This money value is tax-deferred and may be withdrawn before the firing date of the policy too. When the covered dies or surrenders, the money value is returned. Just in case he is alive, the same may be noticed on maturity as the face value of the policy. So an assured payout is guaranteed in case you die or keep living, which is a complete win-win situation.

This life long protection comes with a value, the policyholder is supposed to pay the premiums termed Level Premiums, which don?t alter over the entire life of the policy, in get back for the arranged insurance on a consistent basis to avoid the lapsing of policy. Unlike the term insurance where just a particular period of time is lined, say 25 or 30 years, the protection presents very existence security plus the purchase aspect. But before purchasing a very existence insurance calculator one must examine its cons and pros. They be determined by which kind of senior life insurance guidelines one chooses.

Whole senior life insurance Pros
Life Long Protection: Whole senior life insurance includes the gain that it provides defense for the whole life of the policyholder from the evening one buys the plan until death, as long as rates are compensated regularly. On the contrary term senior life insurance gives demise cover only for a specific timeframe, death factor is compensated only if you die within the term and not after it.
Tax Exempted Cash value or Savings: Cash value on a tax-deferred basis is the biggest advantage of the full senior life insurance. One might take mortgage against the income benefit, or get it back when one no more needs to carry on the coverage. That continues on growing if not taken before the tenure ends and is completely duty free. This cash value may be used to complement pension income or the emergency and additional needs.
Death Benefit: Death benefit is the value at which the plan was obtained, it is without any duty. It can be used for success transport or survivor?s benefit.
Level Premium: The premium value collection at the period of policy obtained remains the same over the complete life of the policy. It will not raise like just in case of a term insurance.
Ease of Cancellation: One can submit his policy when one no longer needs to keep at any place of period and get the money price back.
Dividends: Dividends can also be attained on a policy, but are not guaranteed.
Whole senior life insurance Cons
High Cost of Coverage: As this insurance covers the whole life of the policyholder, the quality prices are also very good. With the possibilities of death boosts every passing year, cost of policy becomes an affordability problem for the people. Consequently people switch to term insurance.
Wrong Choice: No two humans have exactly the same requirement of insurance. As an example, lifetime insurance wasn?t demanded by some persons. And when they go for the same, it becomes an incorrect choice.
Investment Tool: Many individuals acquire insurance as an expense resource but the funds in value received is reduced than the additional alternatives offered in the market.
Inflexibility of Handling: As the insurer herself manages the total procedure, so it?s difficult to boost the results of the policy by committing in distinct shares or bonds. Consequently, we were holding the entire existence insurance calculator benefits and disadvantages.

Networking for Personal and Professional Success | Stacey Shipman

Do you network for personal or professional reasons?

Healthy South Shore Wellness Professionals Networking

I first heard about networking when I quit my job in 2006. My husband, who had already spent many years self-employed before entering the corporate world said, ?If you?re going to start a business, you need to network.?

I had no idea what that meant. I live in an area referred to as the ?South Shore?. I Googled Women?s Business Networking South Shore, MA

The first listing that popped up ? the South Shore Women?s Business Network.

I signed up for and attended my first event. As I walked down the hall to the function room, my heart rate picked up. ?I can?t do this? I thought. I quickly responded with, ?You have to.?

When voices I?d never heard before echoed into the hallway, I paused. The shy me turned on my heels and walked away. As I reached the other end of the hall I thought, ?If you don?t go in now you?ll never go in. And how will you get a business going??

I exhaled, turned back around and walked in the door. A friendly face greeted me and immediately introduced me to another friendly face.

The rest, as they say, is history. I became a member, a board member and the President. I even wrote a small tips book on the topic.

The Result of Networking

Today I booked 2 speaking engagements due to the relationships I developed through networking. And specifically through the South Shore Women?s Business Network.

I also received a call from a colleague who is transitioning jobs and wanted to let me know. She sent me her resume and we?ll see if and how I can help her at this time. Because we have a relationship, she felt comfortable reaching out, sharing this change and asking for help.

Networking is All About Relationships

Relationships that can help you grow your business; relationships that might turn into friendships; and relationships that might help you in your personal life.

It?s not about sales. It?s not about passing out or collecting as many business cards as you can, and it?s certainly not about taking those cards and immediately adding the email addresses to your mailing list.

The old adage goes ?People do business with those they know, like and trust.?

Considerations to Get You Started

If you live south of Boston check out the South Shore Women?s Business Network or the South Shore Chamber of Commerce (I?m also a member). Or do a web search for another group that?s a good fit.

A quick Google search for networking events in your area will most likely list more than you can handle. If not, consider starting your own. I did, that, too.

A networking event is a starting point. If you make a connection with someone, ask for their card, permission to contact them, and suggest getting together again for a more in depth conversation. Get to know them, be curious, follow up and most importantly find out how you can help. That?s what networking, and relationship building is all about. And it?s those relationships that will enrich your life personally and professionally.

Your turn: How about you. Do you network live or online for personal or professional reasons? Would love to hear your thoughts about networking.

New to networking? I wrote a small guide book to help you through it called Experience Less Stress, More Success: networking for Business. In it I share my experiences and tips I learned along the way. Perfect for a new business owner or individual new to networking.
