Plaxico Burress? interview with Men?s Journal created a bit of a buzz in New York on Friday, but one of the targets of his vitriol wasn?t caught up in it.
Giants coach Tom Coughlin, castigated by Burress for his lack of care about Burress? condition post-shooting and his overall management style, was asked about the interview during a media session on Friday afternoon. Coughlin declined to throw anything back in his former wideout?s direction.
?No, I?m not [aware of the comments] and I?m really not all that concerned,? Coughlin said. ?I?m sure it was lots of grandiose statements. I don?t know anything about that but I?m really not interested in it either.?
Coughlin was also asked about his decision to meet with Burress last month before he wound up signing with MetLife Stadium?s other tenant. The Giants coach balked at the suggestion that the meeting was held to provide closure.
?What do you mean did I reach some kind of closure? We were trying to decide whether and to what extent we were going to be able to try to and make an offer. It wasn?t about closure,? Coughlin said. ?It was about business. It was about going forward, which is what this is about.?
Giants owner John Mara declined to offer any comment about Burress? interview. We?ll just have to guess what he thinks unless he follows in the footsteps of Burress and James Harrison and sits down for a chat with Men?s Journal as well. We haven?t heard anything from Eli Manning, also a target of Burress? broadsides, and his history suggests no one should be holding their breath for a retort.
The unwillingness of the Giants to get involved in the game of finger pointing probably dooms this story to a quick death. After Sunday we?ll have plenty of current affairs to discuss about both New York teams anyway.
